The Biography
A chance conversation in Mumbai about a sugarcane farmer fined for polluting a stream revealed a deeper problem: people did not understand where wastewater went, or the value it carried. That question led her to co-found Ossus Biorenewables, a company focused on extracting clean water, metals, and biohydrogen from industrial wastewater using microorganisms.
Her technology offers communities and industries something rare: clean water and a carbon-negative source of energy they can reuse or sell. In just a few years, the work has moved fast, backed by strong science and family support, with her mother joining as co-founder to lead the business while Suruchi Rao focused on technology.
